So I've been mentioning this square, Djemma El Fna, a lot. So what is it? It's the center of life and tourism of the Marrakesh medina. During the day, it's filled with all sorts of street performers -- trained monkeys, acrobats, water carriers (guys dressed like Mexican mariachis carrying sacks of water), and, of course, snake charmers. You can see the latter surrounding a dozen snakes. They'd be holding one and trying to drape it around someone's neck (and charging to remove it). I don't have many pictures since if anyone sees you taking a picture of them, they run over to ask for money.
There are stalls of fruit-sellers. You can get a good fresh-squeezed orange juice for 3 dirhams (~40 cents). There are terraced cafes from which you can watch the activities. At night, more performers and activities come out -- story tellers, soda bottle fishing, putting and bowling games, and much more. Food stalls set up with cheap food. We never tried these this time.
The square is always filled with people. We were there as late as 10 or 11pm one night, and it was still filled with people. It is supposedly hopping as late as 1am or later!
